Announcing the 2008 Skipping Stones Honor Awards. Skipping Stones is the winner of the 2007 N.A.M.E. Children's Publication Award. Skipping Stones is a nonprofit magazine for youth that encourages communication, cooperation, creativity and celebration of cultural and environmental richness. It provides a playful forum for sharing ideas and experiences among youth from different countries and cultures. We are an ad-free, ecologically-aware magazine! We publish five bimonthly issues during the school year. Founded in 1988, Skipping Stones is a timely and timeless award-winning resource in multicultural education. Skipping Stones publishes bimonthly during the school year. We accept art and original writings in every language and from all ages. We invite you to participate in this exciting forum with your submissions, subscriptions, suggestions and support. In an issue of Skipping Stones, you will find stories, articles and photos from all over the world: Native American folktales, photos from kids in India and the Ukraine, letters and drawings from South Africa and Lithuania, cartoons from China, and more might await you. Each issue also contains book reviews, news, and a guide for parents and teachers. Non-English writings are accompanied by English translations to encourage the learning of other languages. We continue to receive numerous of letters of appreciation from parents, teachers and students alike. Over the years, we have been reviewed in many publications such as the Utne Reader, School Library Journal, Book Report, Reading Today, NewsLinks, Rethinking Schools, Creative Classroom, Earth Island Journal, Green Teacher, Learning, East-West Journal, etc. In January 2003, our executive editor Arun Toke' was honored by The Writer magazine with their Writer Award. Similarly, in 1999, our ex-President of the board and regular columnist, Hanna K. Still of "Dear Hanna", was honored in Montreal with the Helen Award. As a tax-exempt, nonprofit, educational and charitable organization, we receive grants and donations from foundations and individuals each year to continue our global service work.
