In addition to the Youth Honor Awards (ten outstanding creative entries--art, poems, stories and nonfiction--by youth, 17 and younger), the latest issue, Sept. - Oct. 2010, also features ten ways we can work to bring lasting peace in the world. We have reproduced ten full-color portraits of women working to improve the lives of people in the feature: "Daughters of Earth" by artist Janet Essley. The issue also contains an assortment of many interesting submissions and our regular departments.
Korean American artist, Soma Han is the featured artist of the issue. Soma's painting, Mountain God Spirit, adorns the front cover. To order our latest issue contact us by email or snail mail.
Skipping Stones office was broken into, and the main computer was stolen in mid-May this year. We lost all e-mailed submissions stored on the computer. If you sent us a submission between Nov 8th, 2009 and May 15th, 2010, we suggest you resend it with any attachments for our consideration. We regret these circumstances beyond our control. If your work was already published in our issues, and you have received the complimentary copies, you need not resend.

Skipping Stones is the winner of the 2007 N.A.M.E. Children's Publication Award.
Skipping Stones is a nonprofit magazine for youth that encourages communication, cooperation, creativity and celebration of cultural and environmental richness. It provides a playful forum for sharing ideas and experiences among youth from different countries and cultures. We are an ad-free, ecologically-aware magazine! We publish five bimonthly issues during the school year.
Founded in 1988, Skipping Stones is a timely and timeless award-winning resource in multicultural education. Skipping Stones publishes bimonthly during the school year. We accept art and original writings in every language and from all ages. We invite you to participate in this exciting forum with your submissions, subscriptions, suggestions and support.
In a typical issue of Skipping Stones, you will find poems, stories, articles and photos from many regions of the United States and the world: Native American folktales, photos from kids in India or the Ukraine, letters and drawings from South Africa and Lithuania, cartoons from China, and more might await you. Each issue also contains book reviews, news, and a guide for parents and teachers. Non-English writings are accompanied by English translations to encourage the learning of other languages.

Over the years, we have been reviewed in many publications such as the Utne Reader, School Library Journal, Multicultural Education, Multicultural Review, Book Report, Reading Today, NewsLinks, Rethinking Schools, Creative Classroom, Earth Island Journal, Green Teacher, Learning, East-West Journal, The Writer, and several international and regional periodicals.
In January 2003, our executive editor Arun Toke' was honored by The Writer magazine with their Writer Award. Similarly, our former president of the board and a regular columnist, Hanna K. Still of "Dear Hanna," was honored in Montreal, Canada, with the Helen Award in 1999.
As a tax-exempt, nonprofit, educational and charitable organization, we receive grants and donations from foundations and individuals each year to continue our global service work.

Are you looking for a speaker for your school's Graduation Ceremony or a presenter for an upcoming forum/ workshop/conference that you are helping organize? Consider: Arun Narayan Toke', the founder and executive editor of Skipping Stones magazine.
Arun, born and raised in India, came to the United States to work on his graduate studies in engineering. He attended UWM, Notre Dame and UVM and has worked as a design engineer in South Carolina and taught at a state college in Vermont before founding the multicultural magazine in Oregon. He has published two books, including a co-authored text-book: Energy, Economics and the Environment. His articles have appeared in several newspapers and magazines.
As the editor of Skipping Stones for the last two decades, Arun has attended numerous conferences and spoken at various venues. He has been honored with the EDPRESS, NAME and the WRITER Awards. He is active in the local interfaith community as well as helps organize the Eugene Multicultural Storytelling Festival. He has served on the board of the National Association for Multicultural Education as the Region 10 Director.
Arun has traveled extensively in Europe, North America, Central America and Mexico as well as in his homeland of India. An avid nature lover, Arun has hiked and camped in dozens of national parks, climbed many peaks over 10,000 feet high in Canada, the United States, Mexico and Central America. Arun has bicycled over 3,000 kilometers in Northern Europe and walked 500 kilometers as a part of a peace walk in Central America. He speaks four languages, including Spanish. He tries to live by his multicultural, ecological and spiritual values.
Arun can talk from his own experiences and about various themes related to his work. These include: Multicultural Issues in Today's World, Energy Conservation and Ecology, Transportation Systems, International Understanding, Community and Multilingual Living, and of course, How to Get Your Students Published in a Magazine. His talks are light-hearted yet with substance, entertaining and educational. Arun has also offered storytelling sessions at elementary and middle schools. The honorarium for Arun's time is modest and it helps our nonprofit work. We will to work within your budget.
Arun is scheduled to be in the Northeast this September (11th - 14th) for the 2010 Children's Magazine Editor's Retreat. He will also attend the NAME Annual Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, during Nov. 3 - 6, 2010.
