1. The Harvesters<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cBe at peace with your <\/span>
\nEnemy\u201d our ancestors <\/span>
\nPreached<\/span>
\nBut what if they were <\/span>
\nPolice<\/span>
\nThe authorities who<\/span>
\nHandcuffed and<\/span>
\nHunted you down like<\/span>
\nAn animal<\/span>
\nThat gave you no relief<\/span>
\nWhen you sought to live<\/span>
\nFreely in America<\/span>
\nContinually we battled<\/span>
\nOur poverty hunger strife<\/span>
\nIn our native land<\/span>
\nAt one time the fields <\/span>
\nAnd orchards offered a<\/span>
\nWay to excel<\/span>
\nIt was a place where hope<\/span>
\nDwelled<\/span>
\nAnd Cesar Chavez’s Spirit<\/span>
\nExisted<\/span><\/p>\n

2. Escaping Hunger Pangs<\/span> <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Stealing food heals<\/span>
\nMy momentary hunger<\/span>
\nMaking me wonder<\/span>
\nAbout the noises<\/span>
\nIn my stomach<\/span>
\nThey sound louder than<\/span>
\nThunder as they rumble <\/span>
\nInside<\/span>
\nBut I relentlessly search<\/span>
\nFor slumber and shade in<\/span>
\nThe city sun<\/span>
\nOblivious to places too<\/span>
\nObvious for rest<\/span>
\nI recall how nice the<\/span>
\nBeans and rice<\/span>
\nAre when I realize I can<\/span>
\nGet caught someday<\/span>
\nLiving life on the streets<\/span>
\nI savor solutions to stay<\/span>
\nAlive without needing to <\/span>
\nHide<\/span><\/p>\n
