Faith in Yearning

Faith in Yearning

By Estelle Bardot

It’s funny
how we believe
that all our hopes and dreams
can be manifested
by the single motion
of blowing out a birthday candle.
Or an eyelash.

I’d always close my eyes
to all the times
wishing had failed me
and still do it again
just because
the act of wishing
bought me a childish sense
of comfort.

More often than not,
it would disappoint me.
Still, it would be foolish to blame
a flame.
Or the wind.

But nothing is more detrimental
than blaming yourself
for daring to dream.
